Reference-Sample Cosmetic Development: From Brief to Approved Sample

A reference sample helps describe a direction; it is not a promise of an identical formula or performance. OCELEIYA can evaluate reference-based development with your texture, fragrance and packaging brief, then agree the scope before sampling.

Describe what you want to reference

Identify the format and intended use: lotion, essence or another specified cosmetic format.
Describe spreadability, absorption feel, finish and fragrance preferences separately.
Separate the requested bottle or tube style from the formula requirements.
Use materials you are entitled to share; identify your own branding and artwork rather than requesting another brand’s identity.

Record the sample and review conditions

Give each reference and development sample a unique label or version. Evaluate samples under similar conditions, record who reviewed them, and collect specific observations rather than only “good” or “not similar”. Ask the team what feasibility checks and sample-shipping arrangements apply before sending materials.

Keep product and packaging decisions separate

A catalogue photo can identify a reference such as the 30ml collagen peptide essence or 200ml Ethereal Bloom body lotion. It cannot establish the full ingredient list, formula concentration or included accessories. Confirm these separately, together with compatibility between the selected formula, container and closure.

Approve the version that will be produced

List the sample version, net content, agreed formula information and packaging components.
Confirm artwork, label language, included accessories and the agreed inspection scope.
Record requested revisions and obtain a revised quotation or schedule if the scope changes.
Keep the final sample and written specification as the reference for production and repeat orders.

In-stock orders start at 24 units and may mix products; one set counts as one unit. Custom orders start at 1,000 units; confirm the allocation by product, fragrance and packaging for your project. Samples are free; the recipient pays shipping. When an existing in-stock reference is available, samples can generally be prepared in 2–3 days, depending on product complexity and confirmation. This is preparation time, not delivery time. Production lead time is quoted for the agreed project.
