Cosmetic OEM MOQ: Why Formula, Bottles and Boxes Need Separate Planning

Ask what the MOQ applies to
- Formula: ask whether the minimum is per formula, fragrance or production batch.
- Packaging: ask about each bottle, tube, cap, printed label and box, especially when colours or artwork differ.
- Finished product: confirm whether a quoted minimum is per item, fragrance or complete order.
- Mixed assortment: ask whether variants may be combined; do not assume that one total quantity satisfies every component minimum.
Start with one clear first-order scenario
For example, a 200ml body lotion enquiry should specify tube or bottle, fragrance choices and quantity per choice. A 50ml perfume enquiry should identify the exact fragrance and outer-box requirement. Use the confirmed first-order terms below as the starting point, then ask about the selected variants.
Compare simpler and more customised options
Ask for separate options using an available pack format and a newly customised format, if both are feasible. Compare changes to formula, fragrance, printing and components separately. Reducing variants or postponing a new mould may simplify the brief, but any saving and quantity must be confirmed in the quotation.
Confirm cost and schedule before approval
- Samples are free; request the shipping cost and ask separately about any development work outside the sample scope.
- Confirm whether unused custom packaging remains, who owns it and how it is stored.
- Agree the approved sample, artwork, quantities and expected schedule before production.
- Ask how repeat orders are handled; do not assume the first-order terms automatically continue.
